Beresford Wines Cellar Door Review

Simple, modern and rectangular, this structure is Beresford Wines Tasting Pavilion, the newest cellar door in McLaren Vale.

Owned by by Vok Beverages, a sister company of South Australian beverage manufacturer Bickford’s, there is a fair bit of coin behind this new chapter. Branding is shared by another in the Vok/Bickfords stable, Step Rd, based in Langhorne Creek but sharing winemaker Chris Dix with Beresford.

To the rear, the building is all glass with a wide oak verandah.

From here you are offered views of Beresford House and it’s “paramagnetic tower”, said to infuse the soil with the ability to store electromagnetic energy, helping operate the vineyards without chemicals.

In a bold move, this cellar door does not offer free tastings of their wines, but you can purchase one of three different levels of tasting flights, matched with snacks. Prices for the tasting flights start at $15 pp.

The other option to sample the wines is to purchase by the glass, and there are also cheese platters.

Inside, warm yourself by the floating fireplace.

Interiors are almost Nordic, with their blond wood tables, but with a sleek grey and black twist.

We opted for two glasses.

Mine was the Classic Range Beresford Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2014.

Well Looky Here

Bright yellow.

Sniff Sniff

Riper spectrum melons. Opens up to sweet white chocolate. Ripe paw paw.

Sip Sip

Light, modern in style.  Bit of a mid palate hole and quick finish makes it easy to enjoy on its’ own in the sunshine.

Nom Nom

Keep your nibbles light so as not to overwhelm the wine – try a mild dip and neutral cracker.

Mr Wino purchased a glass of the Classic Range Beresford McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013.

Well Looky Here

Purple black, with ruby rim.

Sniff Sniff

Ripe black and purple fruit. Touch of sweet violets and white pepper.

Sip Sip

Soft tannin, milk chocolate back palate. Finished with fresh berry acid.

Not terribly complex but enjoyable.

Nom Nom

16.5 High bronze

Sitting on the verandah, sipping our wine was lovely. Even more so because the cellar door is dog-friendly and we had our pooch in tow.

Families were also enjoying a tasting with the kiddies playing happily on the expansive lawns.

Keep an eye out for the opening of Beresford House, to accompany the tasting pavilion, which will offer rooms and dining.

It’s modern, different, dog and kid friendly, so if a wine and food flight is what you’re after, or a glass of wine, then this is for you.
