Harry’s Deli Wirra Wirra Vineyard Review

Rising above the treetops, the Wirra Wirra Church Block giant wine bottle made of corks is now gone.

The whole complex looks smarter, with an impressive entrance to cellar door boasting an outdoor dining space and wide entry hall.

Here you choose, right to the refurbished cellar door or left into the brand new Harry’s Deli, where we once browsed memorabilia in Harry’s Library.

Harry’s pictures adorn the walls, and the larger-than-life sketch by Jen Wright has pride of place.

A self described casual cafe, offerings include outstanding coffee from a Dawn Patrol exclusive blend turned out by barista Luke Beare of Blessed Cheese fame.

Panninis, platters, soup, salad, and sweeties can also be washed down with a glass or bottle of Wirra Wirra vino.

A casual cafe it may be, but the prices are upmarket cafe in style.

Thankfully the surroundings are so warm and cosy, the portions so generous, and service so sparkling that the lighter wallet can be forgiven.

Greetings are called out as you enter and that follows through with a friendly chat, while orders are taken at the counter.

Beverages

Coffee is the star, but I can never resist Melbourne’s Mork hot chocolate when it’s on offer. Here a chilli version is offered, and almond or soy milk is available for an extra $1. It’s delicious, with that Mork signature of melty dark chocolate blobs at the bottom that is spoon territory.

Food

Vegetarian Panini ($15) made from local legend Andy Clappis bread, The Spice Sisters relish, Haloumi and thick, grilled slices of seasonal veg. The filling is generous and juicy with the outside of the bread perfectly crunchy. A little dish of bonus popcorn is a nice touch.

Cleverly named “Bowl of Abundance”, the Winter salad ($18) is served warm in a generous portion. Roasted pumpkin and beets are sweet, and are tossed with nutty quinoa, sunflower seeds, crunchy toasted almond flakes and rocket. Tangy lemon dressing ties it together.

We are made to feel welcome in this cosy friendly space. It would be easy to stay all day in the leather booth tables – seek them out in the corners.

A welcome addition to the Vale with a unique friendly, stay-all-day vibe.

Harry would be proud.
